Fortinet joins DOST’s National Science & Technology Week

Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) protects the most valuable assets of some of the largest enterprise, service provider and government organizations across the globe. The company’s fast, secure and global cyber security solutions provide broad, high-performance protection against dynamic security threats while simplifying the IT infrastructure. They are strengthened by the industry’s highest level of threat research, intelligence and analytics.
Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT) − a global leader in high-performance cybersecurity solutions − recently joined the Department of Science and Technology’s National Science & Technology Week at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City to introduce the latest security innovations to over 200 event participants.

The Science & Technology week is an initiative held annually under the Republic Act 169 to bring technological innovations closer to Filipinos through experiential activities.

This year’s theme underscores the Philippines as ‘a science nation innovating for global competitiveness,’ highlighting the vital role of science, technology and innovation in improving people’s lives through technology that’s on par with international standards.

Roy Espiritu, the office spokesperson of the DOST-Information and Communications Technology (ICT), said that Fortinet’s involvement in the NSTW helped promote the relevance of using secured Internet connectivity in the country.

"Fortinet's participation in the NSTW allowed us to give the public a sample of the Free Wi-Fi in Public Places Project. We are looking forward to more private sector participation in this project to help bring the socio-economic benefits of Internet connectivity to the rest of the country,“ Espiritu said.
During the week-long activity, Fortinet provided Access Points and free wireless connection(Wi-Fi) to the participants. Furthermore, the cybersecurity solutions provider showcased its Wireless Security Solution, integrating 17 indoor and outdoor FortiAP’s, a switch and a FortiGate 1500D as a controller.

According to Jeff Castillo, Country Manager of Fortinet Philippines, the demonstration of Fortinet’s FortiAP comes on the heels of the new FortiAP-S product’s launch, bringing forward the industry’s most secure cloud-managed enterprise Wi-Fi solution to the Philippines.

“With the growth of the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) phenomenon in the enterprise, many organizations struggled to address the looming concerns about WLAN security and compliance,” Castillo said. “Current enterprise WLAN solutions demand extra hardware like separate WLAN controllers and security appliances—this introduces security challenges that are yet to be addressed. For this reason, we are proud to introduce our new FortiAP-S series, which beefs up the cybersecurity protection Fortinet is widely known for.”

Every FortiAP-S series access point is centrally managed through the cloud-based FortiCloud management system which allows effortless Wi-Fi network deployment and management. This boosts the levels of security, allows overall visibility and control, and reduces infrastructure complexity upon integration.

He added, “Protection against cyber-attacks is relevant in securing an organization’s sensitive information. As we mount a new cybersecurity solution to Filipinos, we can empower them to forego separate WLAN controllers without exposing the network to cyber-threats.”

Castillo concluded, “With our engagement with the DOST, we can guarantee Filipinos that there is a sophisticated technology waiting to secure their business. It’s time to go beyond ‘national’—every Filipino can already ensure a faster and more robust response to threats to protect their operations, their people and their clients, as well.”
