59th Anniversary Celebration of Manila Doctors

Manila Doctors Hospital, one of the leading centers of health and wellness in the Philippines, is a private tertiary hospital which is currently expanding its services with the construction of its new medical tower. Also this year’s recipients of the Exemplar Awards for Medical Staff and Employees. The Exemplar Awards is the management’s way of recognizing medical, allied medical and non-medical staff whose professionalism and affirmative attitude have made a positive impact in the workplace and in the daily operations of the Hospital. As a way of paying tribute to top-notch employees, MDH gave the annual Service Awards as a fitting salute to employees who created an extraordinary and positive impact on the hospital for their 10 to 30 years in service. The anniversary festivities were concluded last December 11 with a Cultural Night presentation.

Pag-IBIG readies Calamity Loan for members affected by Typhoon Nona


Pag-IBIG Fund Board of Trustees Chairman Atty. Chito M. Cruz said recently that Pag-IBIG Fund is ready to assist its members affected by the havoc wreaked by Typhoon Nona.

"As soon as affected local government units issue Resolutions declaring their areas under state of calamities, Pag-IBIG branches in the vicinity will immediately start accepting applications for calamity loan," said Atty. Cruz.

As of December 21, the provinces of Northern Samar, Albay, Sorsogon, and Oriental Mindoro, and the Municipality of Magsaysay in Occidental Mindoro have already issued Resolutions declaring their areas under state of calamity.

Under Pag-IBIG guidelines, members residing in areas declared under state of calamity may file for a calamity loan application at the nearest Pag-IBIG office within 90 days from the date of declaration of the state of calamity.

Atty. Cruz explained that affected residents in the North and Central Luzon region may immediately file their loan applications if their area was declared under state of calamity about two months ago due to the devastation caused by Typhoon Lando.

"We are still within the 90-day period since several provinces in North and Central Luzon were declared under state of calamity because of Typhoon Lando so there is no need to wait for a separate declaration of a state of calamity in the region," Atty. Cruz added, referring to the areas affected by Typhoon Lando and then Typhoon Nona.

Atty. Cruz clarified, however, that for Pag-IBIG members residing in other areas affected by Typhoon Nona, they need to wait for the declaration of a state of calamity before they can file for a calamity loan, unless their case is similar to that of Central Luzon's.

Pag-IBIG yearly allots an amount for calamity loan that may be availed of by their members affected by calamities.

"For 2015, we still have a remaining fund allocation of P3.27 Billion for the Calamity Loan Program." said Atty. Darlene Marie B. Berberabe, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pag-IBIG Fund.

Atty. Berberabe explained that members who have been contributing for at least two years can borrow up to 80% of their total savings.

“Our calamity loan offers the lowest interest rate in the market at only 5.95% per annum, with a three-month grace period before the first amortization starts. Because of the affordability and easy terms of our calamity loan program, we do not add to the burden that our affected members just went through," Atty. Berberabe said.

POST EVENT PRESS RELEASE: Bumper to Bumper XI holds successful car show event at SM MOA Concert Grounds


Bumper to Bumper, the longest-running car show and automotive lifestyle event, happened on December 5 and 6 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. Now on its 11th year, the multi-event happening featured the biggest production setup in any car show in Asia.

"Filipinos love car shows because we can relate to the cars we see. It is always a delight for us to see so many nice cars in one place. You can always see the excitement in people's eyes when they are in a car show and you also know deep inside that they feel inspired—that one day, they will also have these upgrades or these kind of rides in their garage," mused Jonathan Chio, CEO of Ladder Events Production.

The event usually attracts a crowd of 70,000 car enthusiasts and spectators. This year promised to be bigger and better. The finalists were instructed to create a Don Papa cocktail serve drawing their inspiration from the label design of Don Papa Rum as well as the spices, fruits, and bitters of the Philippines. The finals of the cocktail competition, aptly named ItsaDonDeal was held in London, United Kingdom last July 11, 2015 and was judged by Don Papa Rum’s International Brand Ambassador, Matthias Cadeac D’Arbaud and acclaimed drinks and travel writer, Dan Miles.

The overall champion, and now Don of Cocktails, is the 26 year-old Half Italian-Half Filipino bartender, Davide Boncimino. Davide’s winning cocktail is called “Fix in the Mind”, which is reminiscent of his childhood experiences during his visits to the Philippines. This winning cocktail makes use of home-made monkey nuts syrup blended with rice juice, coconut milk, lime, and crème de banana, producing an exciting and intoxicating Don Papa serve.

Trained by his mentors, Filippo Previero (former head bartender of Mr. Fogg’s) and Senior Bartender Kata Simon, Davide feels truly honoured to be the first Don of Cocktails. “When I won the finals, I was shocked and needed a few minutes to process what’s happening. The first thought that came to mind was ‘I will go back to the Philippines to visit my lola (grandmother)’”

MUST TRY: Shoyu Tonkatsu

Gaku says: “Mendokoro has tonkotsu-based ramen with chashu. The restaurant looks just like a Japanese-style kitchen and it reminds me of a good ramen restaurant in Japan, Afuri. The taste of the broth and chasu is very nice.”

Tosot the Global air conditioning appliance enters Philippines



Tosot, a premium brand of Gree, the biggest manufacturer of air conditioners in the world, was officially launched this October. Tosot Philippines also held a grand launch, where dignitaries and executives of Gree came in full force to support the brand expansion in Southeast Asia. Tosot Philippines General Manager Tom Balete said the brand intends to compete in the segment of the market which demand innovative and premium solutions for air conditioners, something Tosot successfully did in three continents worldwide.

The move, Balete said, is in response to growing consumer sentiment that prefers quality air conditioner brands, instead of the usual cheap but low quality products that flood appliance centers all over the land.
“We have been observing the market for years now. We noticed that in the past couple of years, many families and businesses have started to upgrade their air conditioning systems to something that goes beyond cooling their rooms. They want efficiency and quiet that cheaper products don’t have,” he said.

He explained that the penchant of consumers to upgrade their appliances could be a direct result of the growth in the country’s retail sector, marked by the increase in the number of middle class families, which allowed premium brands worldwide to enter the Philippines.

In fact, Balete said that in the Southeast Asian region, where the Philippines is a key member, analysts are predicting that the middle class is expected to triple from 525 million in 2009 to 1.74 billion in 2020.
In the Philippines, economists also expect retail to grow its contribution to the country’s gross domestic product to 20 percent in 10 years, which is up by 7 percent from last year’s 13 percent.

The growth should push demand for quality products, instead of price, Balete said.
