RP Blu Girls pulled off another upset in the World Cup of Softball XI in Oklahoma City, beating 10th-ranked Czech Republic, 3-2, in a nail-biting game. The win came on the heels of another victory against Venezuela, 2-1, while giving world no. 3 Australia a scare, losing 2-3.
According to ASAPHL President Jean Henri Lhuillier and backed the RP Blu Girls, “Our girls started to show their real potential in the last 3 games. That was a strong showing with victories against Venezuela and Czech Republic and almost pulling a gigantic upset versus world number 3 Australia. This will give us the momentum coming to the World Women’s Softball Championships. I’m confident we will pull off more surprises in that tournament”. He added, “Our goal is to make the top 10 of the World Championships. We will fight hard in each game and learn from the experience. We’ll build from all these experiences towards making and contending in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics”.
The RP Blu Girls hope to carry their strong showing in the World Women’s Softball Championships in Surrey, Canada on July 15-24. The tournament boasts of world-class teams from Japan, USA, Australia, Canada, Chinese-Taipei, China, Netherlands, New Zealand, Italy, Czech Republic, Puerto Rico and a host of other delegations vying for the crown.
