Six Top Tips when Getting a Loan given by Home Credit and Credit Information Corporation (CIC)

Who doesn’t need loan? Almost everyone of us has a loan, no matter how small or big is the amount, credit card for purchases or simply borrowed lunch money from our friends/co-worker. According to data from the BangkoSentral ng Pilipinas, nearly 50% of adult Filipinos have an outstanding debt, while another 33% had borrowed money in the past and nearly 1M Home Credit customers.

There are different kinds in borrowing a loan, the first one is the loan taken from lending or financing companies. It’s hard not to see why these “non-traditional” consumer finance companies are growing in popularity: for one thing, their requirements are usually much fewer than what banks ask for, and the approval process itself tends to be pretty fast, too. The other one are those who still feel overwhelmed by the thought of applying for—and repaying—a consumer loan. After all, a loan, no matter how small, is a big responsibility. On the other hand, there are those who dive straight into borrowing, without knowing if they are 100% capable of being a good borrower.
Dmitry Borisenko, Home Credit Head of PR
Atty. Aileen L. Amor-Bautista, CIC Senior Vice President

If you belong to either of these camps, take a moment to read these handy tips from consumer finance company Home Credit and its government partner, Credit Information Corporation (CIC). Master these tips, and you’ll be a master borrower in no time!

1) Have a good credit record
Before you even enter the store or the bank to apply for your next loan, ask yourself if you’ve been a good borrower in the past. Have you ever missed any due dates, or worse, defaulted on a loan? All of these may reflect in your credit history, which financial institutions take a look at before granting loans. If your credit history is good, then chances of approval are high. If not… you might just want to skip that loan application altogether.

2) First-timers have a chance, too
But what if you don’t have a credit record, period—that is, you’ve never had a loan before? It can be a vicious cycle—some people don’t get approved for loans because they have no credit records, but how can they get a record if they’ve never gotten a loan in the first place?

But there’s good news: Home Credit, for one, can provide loans even to first-time borrowers, thanks to their sophisticated system for screening applications. The CIC, on the other hand, can get credit data even from telcos, and cable companies, and share these with financial institutions. So if you have paid bills to these companies, then it just might be the ticket to getting your loan approved!

3) Know your rights, and read the fine print
Before you sign your loan contract, find out if there are any special conditions, or better yet, benefits that come with your loan. For instance, Home Credit offers the option to avail of insurance along with the loan; a 15 day “cooling-off” period that allows customers to pay back the full loan at no added cost within this time period; and a loan “safety guarantee” that promises full transparency on loan products with no hidden charges.

4) On time? Good. Ahead of time? Even better!
Once your loan is approved and signed, remember your dues—that is, know exactly what you owe total, what you owe each month, and for how long. And of course, remember your due dates!“On time, all the time” is a good rule of thumb, but consider paying your monthly dues a few days in advance. That way, you’re protecting yourself from unforeseen hiccups—e.g. technical issues, bank clearing delays—that can lead to delays in posting payments, which of course leads to penalties (and a blemish on your credit record).

Want an even better tip? Enroll your loan into bank auto-debit, if possible. That way, you don’t need reminding every time your due date approaches. Just remember to keep your bank account funded!

5) If you run into trouble, just let your lender know
Even the most responsible borrowers can encounter financial difficulties that can impact their ability to repay. Sudden illness, unemployment, and unforeseen expenses are just some of the things that can derail our loan payments. If ever this happens to you, the last thing you want to do is to hide from your lender, or ignore their calls to remind you of your (over) due dates.

Your best course of action? Reach out to them, and be transparent about your difficulties. More often than not, they are willing to help—or at the very least, listen. In Home Credit’s case, they even have a special unit in the company which reviews cases of customers experiencing extraordinary financial difficulties, and try to find solutions for loan repayment.

6) Turn that good credit record into a GREAT credit record
At this point, you may have realized already how big of a role your credit history plays in getting a loan—and how big of a role your handling of your loan plays in further shaping your credit record. Regardless of how small your loan is, missed or late payments can spell bad news for your credit history. On the other hand, if you are prompt and diligent with your payments, that small loan can do wonders for your credit history—and pave the way for more opportunities in the financial system!

Celebrating Moro through interactive art installation at Ayala Museum Plaza

Have you tried passing Ayala Museum Plaza, Makati Avenue cor Dela Rosa St.? Don’t miss it until the end of May. The interactive art installation to celebrate Moro culture through Manara, a project of Ayala Foundation. Manara means the Arabic word for “minaret” – is the result of the creative collaboration between internationally acclaimed sculptor and painter Toym lmao and industrial designer and installation artist Lilianna Manahan. I was very fortunate to meet personally the two acclaimed Filipino Artists.
Toym Imao
Lilianna Manahan

Featuring 23 minarets and lanterns, the Manara interactive art installation features Moro textiles, wood and metal work, music, and indigenous patterns. Traditionally, minarets served as lighthouses, providing light to people and vessels that needed to find their way. Minarets, which are also important architectural features of mosques, are also where calls to prayer are made.

Similarly, the Manéra art installation hopes to shed light on the richness and diversity of Moro culture, and in the process inspire a deeper understanding of Muslim Filipinos. At the same time, the interactive art installation serves as a call for unity—for Filipinos, even though they come from diverse backgrounds, to become more open to dialogue and cooperation.

"In an increasingly digital environment, art continues to be a powerful expression of today’s realities and an important medium to convey messages of enlightenment, action, and community. We see this interactive exhibit as an opportunity to promote awareness and further educate people about the rich and inspiring culture of Mindanao communities and the significant role the Moro culture plays in our country’s history and heritage,” Ayala Foundation Co-Chairman Fernando Zobel de Ayala said.

with Mr. Ruel Maranan
“The spirit of collaboration, mutual respect, and creativity shown in Manéra is the exact same spirit that we live by at Ayala Foundation. Through our various initiatives in education, youth leadership, sustainable livelihood, and arts and culture, we make sure that we are aligned with the needs of our stakeholders, and focus on programs that make an impact in the lives of the people we serve, which include our conglomerate, our communities, and the rest of the country” says Ruel Maranan, president of Ayala Foundation.

For over 50 years, Ayala Foundation has been implementing community development initiatives in Mindanao. One of the foundation's first projects was the Sumiiao Cattle Research Project at Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro in the 19603. At present, the foundation has been nurturing its partnership with the Autonomous Region of Muslim ~ Mindanao for its youth leadership program Leadership Communities, and its education program Training Institute.

Ayala Foundation has also partnered with the City Government of  Marawi for the community-based Siyapen Drug Rehabilitation Center, which was started earlier this year. Guests are welcome to explore and interact with Manara at the Ayala Museum Plaza. The installation will then be brought to key sites in Visayas and Mindanao later this year.

Ayala Foundation’s Initiatives in Mindanao

As the social development arm of the Ayala group, Ayala Foundation envisions communities where people are productive, creative, self-reliant, and proud to be Filipino,

Founded in 1961 as Filipinas Foundation, the foundation’s first program was, in fact, implemented in Mindanao: the Sumilao Cattle Research Project, which sought to upgrade the quality of livestock in Bukidnon.

In the 1970s  the foundation also undertook several studies on Muslim Mindanao, looking at migration patterns, culture, public policy, and economic opportunities. Projects in Mindanao continued in the 19803 and 19905, until Filipinas Foundation was renamed Ayala Foundation in 1990, signaling the Ayala group’s renewed commitment to improving lives and contributing to national development.

Ayala Foundation’s operations in Mindanao are based in Cagayan de Oro City.

At present, Ayala Foundation’s initiatives in Mindanao focus on two program areas—youth leadership and education, the bulk of which are done in partnership with the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.

  • Leadership Communities, a program which strengthens the leadership potential of community-based youth as they identify urgent challenges faced by their own communities, and to conceptualize and implement projects to address these challenges. LeadCom has reached the youth in Cagayan de Oro, Davao City, and Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte.
  • Basilan Young Leaders Program-LeadCom, where 28 young Muslim leaders underwent an immersion and exposure programs, enabling them to appreciate best practices in health, education, livelihood, peace and synergy in key cities around the country. This was done in partnership with RG Mujiv Hataman and the ARMM and the Eisenhower Fellows Association of the Philippines (EFAP). These 28 young leaders either partnered with each other or put up their own groups to implement projects. These resulted in 10 youth projects that had 628 direct beneficiaries benefited through the efforts of youth leaders; 167 youth volunteers all over Basilan were involved in the implementation of the projects.
  • Bangsamoro Young Leaders Program-LeadCom was initiated to build on the success of the Basilan Young Leaders Program, this time reaching out to the entire ARMM. Ongoing is the project conceptualization phase, where 35 Bangsamoro youth are participating.
  • Training Institute is a teacher training program focusing on four major elements, namely classroom pedagogy, development of critical thinking skills, values clarification and use of technology in the classroom. Ongoing are two-year training sessions in both Lamitan and Lantawan in Basilan where 41 teachers and school heads learn new techniques in improving the classroom experience. In Cagayan de Oro, AFl has trained 64 teachers, most of whom will also become trainers for TI initiatives in other parts of Mindanao.
  • Global Filipino Schools, a partnership program between Ayala Foundation, Globe Telecom, Mitsubishi, and the City Government‘of Cagayan de Oro, provides internet connectivity and teacher training in the use of technology in the classroom. GFS reached 2,710 pupils and 62 teachers from Fr. Masterson Elementary School and lndahag Elementary School, both in Cagayan de Oro.
  • The Siyapen Drug Rehabilitation Center is a partnership project with the City Government of Marawi, and hopes to provide a community-based approach to drug rehabilitation. It Will be opened in 2017.

Since I’m here already at the Ayala Museum I’m as well visit the second floor gallery of the Ayala Museum. It was my first time to enter here although I always pass here going to the malls. Once again I’m one of the lucky to see the library exhibition for the two revolutionaries.

One was a Katipunero and a musician, the other the most celebrated Filipino writer of the 20th century. Both played key roles in the formation of the nation, and helped us understand what it means to be Filipino and to commemorate the 150th Math anniversary of Julio Nakpil and the 100th birth anniversary of Nick Joaquin, the Filipinas Heritage Library is hosting a series of events in sup- port of “Joaquin and Nakpil: Reveiuiicnary," an exhibition that honors two truly revolutionary Filipinos.

Starting on May 20 at the second floor gallery of the Ayala Museum, “Joaquin and Nakpil: Revolutionary" presents the life and work of Nakpil and Joaquin as a conversation. Although there is no account of these two remarkable individuals meeting, they shared common passions, which inspired their work. Highlighting Joaquin’s nonfiction and Nakpil’s musical compositions, this multisensory exhibition presents their love for the city of their birth, Manila; their thoughts on the Philippine Revolution and the birth of the nation and their views on key people that shaped our nation’s history.

During the exhibition’s run, “Joaquin and Nakpil: Revolutionary” will be supported by a series of lectures, film screenings, and public performances:

1) June 3 - music professors Felipe de Leon Jr. and Alexandra lnigo-Chua will deliver talks on the music and milieu of Nakpil.

2) June 16 - In a world premiere, Nakpil’s music will be performed by the Manila Symphony Orchestra, with the special participation of Dr. Raul Sunico, at the Ayala Museum lobby.

3) June 17 - Sari Dalena’s film Dahling Nick, which offers a glimpse of the man behind some of the most enduring works in Philippine literature and journalism, will be screened and will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker and other resource speakers.

4) July - The family of  Nick Joaquin will also stage a musical adaptation of Joaquin’s well-loved children’s story “How Love Came to Juan Tamad" sometime in July.

5) July 15 - As a culminating activity, film scholar and filmmaker Nick Deocampo will talk about Joaquin in the context of  the 100th year of Philippine cinema.

The exhibit, “Joaquin and Nak pil: Revolutionary” runs from May 20 to July 23, and may be viewed for free. “Joaquin and Nakpil: Revolutionary" is presented by the Filipinas Heritage Library and the Ayala Museum in partnership with the Bahay NakpiI-Bautista Foundation and the Estate of  Nick Joaquin.

Who wants to have a internet with a fast, affordable, reliable and pure fiber-optic connectivity? This is the perennial problem of Filipinos in dealing with slow Internet connection will now be a thing of the past and thank you to Converge ICT Solutions, Inc., a complete ICT solutions provider in the Philippines to power the Internet usage of home, micro, small-, medium- and large-scale enterprise users and elevates Pinoys’ Internet experience with the launch of FiberX, iBIZ, Converge Enterprise and FiberXtreme.
Mr. Jesus Romero
Converge have been around several years ago now but mostly Filipino’s only knows only the Globe and Smart but now the  company announced further expansion plans and continued strengthening of its fiber optic network. At present, Converge already laid out more than 6,000 kilometers of its fiber optic reach and is still growing. It is already servicing clients from as far north as Baguio and further down south to Batangas.

Here in Metro Manila, Converge’s pure fiber optic offering has already covered cities such as Valenzuela and Las Piñas and Muntinlupa cities down south of the metropolis. It plans to further expand its reach by putting up networks in Nasugbu, Batangas and even far north such as San Fernando in La Union.

“Eventually, fiber broadband offerings will soon be enjoyed nationwide. With Converge fiber broadband products, whether you are at home or at the office or your place of business, your Internet experience will surely be made better. And the best part of it is that it costs the same as your DSL connection, but made faster,” , according to Converge ICT Solutions, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis Anthony Uy.

But the best part is that there is “NO DATA CAP” in Internet access unlike those offered by other service providers where there’s a limit to data allowance.

“We thought that what’s the use of having fast Internet connection if there is a limit to data access? With FiberX, there is no more ‘data cap’ to Internet usage. We feel we will just be short-changing our customers if we put a limit to their Internet usage. Aside from bringing faster Internet to Filipinos, Romero said they will limit the existing difficulties customers experience when applying for an Internet connection. “Part of the experience is to make sure that customers will not wait long to get connected. We have made the application process simple, easy and fast. No more hassles, no more waiting,”  says Jesus Romero, Chief Operating Officer of Converge ICT Solutions, Inc.

Initially, FiberX is offered in three different plan types for a variety of home users depending on their Internet usage. With pure end-to-end fiber technology that’s light years better than traditional Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), FiberX will surely enhance everyone’s online experience with better speed, larger bandwidth and consistent performance for either work or play.

Teresa Loyzaga the supermom that beats the odds to live deeper

TechnoMarine celebrates Mother’s Day with Teresa Loyzaga
and sons Joseph and Diego. Also Teresa Loyzaga wearing a TechnoMarine watch from Cruise line collection

One of my favorite “contravida” actress in the country is Ms. Teresa Loyzaga. I’ve been following her since she enter showbiz, left showbiz for a while and now she’s coming back. I really appreciate her as a Mom and what she sacrifices was a truly Supermom. So what better gift to give their super mom this Mother’s Day, as a symbol of their heartfelt appreciation, than a TechnoMarine timepiece? Teresa has surely come a long way since then and is truly embodying TechnoMarine’s “Live Deeper” spirit to the fullest. In 2003, she was able to land her dream job in Australia – proof that if you work hard enough, you can achieve your aspirations and live a fulfilling life.
Living deeper to me need not only mean activities, action, success…it also means acceptance of limitations and maximizing its potential. It means doing your best in the most humble and unnoticeable way—being quiet yet being bold”, she explains.
Teresa Loyzaga has been in the showbiz spotlight for decades, assuming many roles both in reel and real life, where she has portrayed to great effect quite a myriad of characters. With all the characters that she has played, however, it is her role as daughter to her father basketball legend Carlos Loyzaga and mom Victoria, sister to her siblings Chito, Joey, Princess and Bing, and of course mother to sons Joseph and Diego, that she considers priceless and closest to her heart. After all, she says, family means everything.

And while many might think that her life in showbiz is one of sheer glamour and prestige, Teresa also endured her fair share of challenges, not the least of which is being a single mother to two kids whom she single handedly raised in the face of trials.
The hardest part for me was not being able to be with them physically as much as I wanted to because I had to work,” she confides. “Time management and a great deal of patience and selflessness always came in handy, as well as the love and support of Nanay Conchita who is always there for me. She is my yaya and I consider her as my second mom.
But Teresa is nothing if not persistent, and not to mention resilient, especially in the face of hardships. In 2000, she took a big risk to pursue her dream. Taking her children along, she joined her parents in Australia to start anew. It not only meant getting out of her comfort zone, but it also required her, at the onset, to take on odd jobs just to support her family. “Yes I took odd jobs. But I had a dream. It doesn’t come easy and definitely not for free, but they do come true,” she shares with pride.

And no one could be prouder of all the sacrifices that Teresa had to bear than her sons Joseph and Diego who are most grateful, more so now that it is Mother’s Month. Both brothers agree that what they have become, they owe much to their mom.

“You’d definitely say she’s very strong willed but most of all I’d just say motherly,” shares Joseph, who is working towards opening a vegan restaurant. “She managed to teach us to think for ourselves, to always do right, not because of merit and reward, but because it is the right thing.”
“She’s a superhero!” beams Diego, who has also caught the acting bug. “She would split herself into many versions and work multiple jobs. Inabot nya mga pangarap nya – makalipad, magtrabaho, at bigyan niya ng magandang buhay sa ibang bansa ang mga anak nya.”
And truly, these days, Teresa is the picture of fulfillment and contentment. Having put the past behind her, she is glad too that the world of show business – her other family as she puts it — is always there to welcome her back.

And as a parting shot, Teresa shares, “To fellow single moms, chin up! You are no less than other moms as there is no task that you cannot achieve. Enrich yourselves through this journey and grow with each day of struggle. Most importantly, keep your feet on the ground but keep reaching for the stars.”

For more information, you may visit TechnoMarine boutiques at SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, SM North Edsa, SM City Cebu, SM Lanang Premier, TriNoma, Greenbelt 3, Robinson’s Galleria, Robinson’s Magnolia, Shangri-La Plaza, and all MyDiamond boutiques nationwide, or like them on Facebook: and follow them on Instagram @technomarineph.

The gift of healthy ‘crowning glory’ fit for the queen this Mother’s Day

CLICHE it may be, but there’s indeed a woman behind the person we are today. And that’s no less than her—our mother. We used to call her nanay, inay, ‘nay, mama, mommy or simply mom. Needless to say, she deserves more than that given the pivotal role she fulfills in rearing us from childhood to adulthood and possibly for the rest of our lives.

There may be opposing beliefs whether that greater maternal instinct is biologically predetermined or socially imposed, but everyone would agree that a mother is hardwired to love and care about the whole family, especially the children, all the time. For better or worse, it’s always the welfare of everyone at home on top of her priority. No wonder she’s an epitome of a doting human being that touches everybody’s life. So, it’s but right to honor and return all the favors she has done for us. And what a better way to do this than this Mother’s Day.

Still drooling over the ways on how to spend this time of the year again with her? Well, you may opt for the basics of gift-giving from simple trinkets to expensive items. But take note, your appreciation of her is not equated by the tag price of your present. It’s the thought that counts, as an adage says.

You may consider a set of hankies that will bring back the memory of her wiping out her tears of happiness upon knowing that she’s conceiving a li’l creature inside her womb. That’s you, of course. A loose yet comfy clothes shall make her remember that sort of a duster or preggy dress she wore in the laborious yet exciting “nine months” of gestation.

Why not a pillow that she could hug as tight as she embraced you after giving birth, or maybe a brassiere for protection of the very bosom she fed you with during infancy? A bed will bring to her mind your tot years when you started to crawl and roll over it freely.

Shoes are a girl’s best friend, too, like your mom. Either sky-high heels or flattering flats, there’s a pair to match every bit of her fantasy. For as long as it brings comfort to her feet, it's more than enough to reciprocate the ease you had when you took your first walk with her guidance back then. If it isn’t her thing, though, a flip-flop will cause her to think that she also disciplined you through the proverbial “rule of slipper” hit on your buttocks while you were growing up.

Much to her delight, a bling ring will be worthy of your dear investment to show your deep appreciation of her just like when she never failed to recognize you with a pat on the back for simple good deeds or a job well done in your lifetime.

Square 3 in 1
Stuck for an idea yet? Here’s a simple but meaningful token of gratitude that for sure will make a big difference and, eventually, pull off a surprise for the celebrant herself: The NOVUHAIR 3-in-1 pack which includes the topical scalp lotion, herbal shampoo and conditioner. Yes, you read it right.

Still not convinced enough, why don’t you spray a liberal amount of NOVUHAIR topical scalp lotion onto your mom’s scalp and massage it for five to ten minutes. You may not even know that with such a plain gesture of yours, it can melt her heart as it reminds her of the past when she used to do the same thing while you were still young, either as a trick to put you easily on a slumber or merely a relief every time you got sick. Those caressing hands of yours, likewise, imbibe your act of giving back the “natural care from mothers” like her.

Whatever impression it may have on her, what’s tangible she could gain is that you’re giving her nature’s gift of health. NOVUHAIR Topical Scalp Lotion is so unique that it combines 19 natural herbs, essential oils and co-factor nutrients––all working synergistically to help address hair problems from growth to vanishing. This breakthrough product helps to rejuvenate, nourish and maintain the moist of her tress from root to tip, aids in stimulating the growth of her hair and helps prevent it from excessive falling, while improving the overall appearance.

More than anything else, NOVUHAIR 3-in-1 pack may be one of the most precious gifts that your mom could ever receive in her entire life. Well, she’s the most important woman in your life after all. Hence, she deserves to be treated like a queen with that vibrant, bouncy and shiny “crowning glory.”

NOVUHAIR 3-in-1 pack is beyond compare. So, don’t think twice to wrap it as your present for her this Mother’s Day and, if ever, for life. Head on to any Mercury Drug and other leading drugstores to get a dose of nature’s answer to hair loss.  For inquiries, call 413-6570 or 0922-8830575, and visit for more details. HMR Trading Haus continue to expand and their newest branch in Fairview Terraces, Ayala Mall was officially opened last May 6, 2017 with a mass and blessings of the store. It was attended by their employees, media, bloggers and some guest. Their new store it’s quite big with the size of 1800 sqm and this is their eighteenth store. HMR was started in 1992 in Mandaluyong City, today the original store still stand. Other HMR store locations include Pioneer, Adriatico, Araneta, Ever Commonwealth, Novaliches, Subic, Batangas, Muntinlupa, Sta Rosa, Cebu and more.

Ms. Sharlene Carman-Powell
During the opening I had a chance to talk to Ms Sharlene Carman-Powell, Marketing Head. She discussed about their store and what do they offer. That HMR store  known for being the haven for impulse buyers, offering affordable priced goods ranging from office/household furniture, appliances, sporting goods, apparel, gadgets, computers, audio/video, hardware tools and a lot more. And every HMR store has slightly different product mix. Like here at Fairview they cater more on Millenials or younger market. While at Pioneer more on industrial products. At HMR, customers can be assured that they are getting the best deal in town for their purchase. In most cases, items are one of a kind at irresistible prices.

I am very thankful that I was invited here, that I had a chance to shop and enjoy their very big discounts. They have everything here and I was able to buy for the mothers day/graduation gifts and many more. I found out that HMR Trading Haus Fairview is giving Ayala Mall goers exclusive Grand Opening Deals on branded apparel at P99, Vacuum Cleaners at 70% off, Angry Bird Linen at 70% off , Branded Toasters at 50% off and so much more. The secret to finding out what’s new in store is to leave your name and number with a Sales Consultant who will contact you when there are new arrivals.

Another thing that I discovered here was the HMR Trading Haus Card Loyalty Program. This is for free that every P200 purchase you will earn 1 point. You can triple the points if you shop from Monday to Thursday. This will be accumulated points for as low as 50 that can be exchange for a reward item.
